Is pale skin more prone to hyperpigmentation? In short, no. But it’s a bit trickier than that.

Although hyperpigmentation can affect all skin tones, it is more susceptible to darker skin. Because darker skins tend to have bigger melanocytes and more melanin storage at the skin, hyperpigmentation is often more intense and last longer on them.

However, it is the opposite when it comes to freckles, which are more common on pale skin, like Caucasians and Asians. Freckles, in most cases, only affect people with a specific gene called MC1R, which is inherited. Visually, people with this gene have blond/red hair, pale skin and get sunburn more easily.

So how to treat hyperpigmentation? Let’s talk about it in the next video.
